Program Details:
This program is for Graduate Assistantship in the department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
If you are selected, the appointment will begin August 1, 2023 and will require that you work approximately 20 hours per week while registered for a minimum of 9 credit hours during both the fall and spring semesters and 6 credit hours in the summer.
This assistantship is expected to continue throughout your graduate degree pursuit, pending your continuous enrollment as a full-time graduate student, satisfactory performance/degree progression, and availability of funding.
Compensation includes the following:
- A waiver of your tuition cost, currently valued at approximately $15,300/yr.
- A waiver of the following fees: differential tuition, student programs and services fees, library fees, technology fees, and facilities fees, valued at approximately $5,500/yr. Note that there are a few departments at UTK that charge a special course fee; while CBE does not, you might encounter those fees in elective courses, and you will be responsible for their payment. More information is available at https://onestop.utk.edu/tuition-detail.
- Health insurance, currently valued at approximately $2,700/yr. Details regarding the health plan are available at https://www.studenthealthprograms.com/plan-summary/
- An annual academic base stiped in the amount of $30,000/yr, to be paid in monthly installments of $2,500 starting with the August 31, 2023 payroll.
- The Tickle fellowship in the amount of $5,000/yr for up to five years. This will be paid through financial aid in two installments per year distributed at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.
Your performance will be evaluated on an annual basis. Failure to achieve set goals will result in a warning and areas of improvement will be identified. If performance does not improve within an agreed upon time, your Graduate Assistantship (stipend, tuition / fee waivers, health insurance, fellowship) will be subject to termination. You will be responsible for a prorated portion of tuition / fee costs should your employment be ended during a semester for non-compliance with the terms of this appointment, or if you vacate your assistantship voluntarily.
